Smile in the process of decay Smile for the moment of a day Smile in the presence of eternity Change is gonna come Crisis will come any day anyway Smile with the priviledge of fool and deity Smile and watch it transforming into the grin of a skull Change is gonna come Crisis will come Darkness will come anyway Do it, Enjoy it – for it won't happen again

Why should I hold my horses in their flight? The poor soulless beast sure knows what is best And as the distance transforms into shape I use those silver spurs to cut open my chest Half way up – already going down with a howl of hunger and desire And I see faces in the sandstorm and I see colours in the haze and mountains blocking the horizon that still need to be climbed look beyond and look behind for the spirit haunts the mind Why should we hold our horses? Cheer them on! Now come on, come on – for it's the course of the world And when the surface coarsens let the bolt and our tired shells being twisted and twirled We're moved by forces out of reach I'm moved by forces out of reach But I'll grab it as soon as it falls And I see faces in the sandstorm and I see colours in the haze and mountains blocking the horizon that still need to be climbed for the spirit haunts the mind what's beyond and what's behind Halfway up the hill there are still mountains far away And if we get a look behind will it have been worth the strain maybe there's nothing to see nothing to loose nothing to bleed nothing to die for Will we ever not stay where we are Will we ever reach the indistinct mountains afar Sliding horses that croak on the way Was it really worth the strain will there anything remain will we find answers when we fall or is there nothing at all?

To everything that blew my mind to everything I left behind - and daily revive To all the voices in our heads to all the dreams left in our beds - yet somewhere alive Get along be so kind open up never mind What's the point the point is keen so push it inside and bleed Don't withdraw keep the wounds open crucial stuff demands some pain To all the years you saw me try to all the days I failed to cry - and now it is night To the future and beyond when mourning will create the bond for us to unite Existence is pain that's why poets will remain and the songs that we hum when we go Something's beating in your breast now cut open your chest and let it flow – just like so Don't withdraw keep the wounds open crucial stuff demands some pain Giving birth is never easy that's why poets will remain

Last night I reached for tomorrow but again I was late Last night I tried to measure my sorrow and it reached 48 I failed to systemize my perversions today 'Cause I'm not sure if I believe that I mean what I say I'm on tmy knees again ready to crawl like a child on the floor again avoiding my face in the mirror Keep your hands to yourself and don't play with the strangers will you follow the flesh and the blood and the rules that keep you inside I can not wait – this is agony I wish I could stay Last night I reached for the door but I'm still on the floor and I measure my sorrow: 49 See these eyes so blue will you believe me whe n I say I'm lying One of us is true – I can not wait to see the end. Don't you see: Duration – not intensity – is the quality of agony

The Surface 05:44
The break of day will prove you wrong again as morning birds commence their song again For the strains up in the trees, all the sounds that seem to praise and jubilate are the cries of black despair and the voices of lost souls mourning their fate Move to my side under the surface and see colours disappearing in the shade This life is a song and we're humming along Existence is the space between two vast eternities, take heed of your enemies and fear your friends Under the suface and the honest actor will be hung for fraud so while you're reflecting on this I submerge and start humming along 'cause life must go on and the birds do sing their song while we others are humming along

Sometimes I follow the streets ages metastasized spider's web through nation's mud Spreading like cracks in the glass of a frame, lines in an old man's palm asphalt veins returning blood As I went west past the war cemetaries where anti-tank-barriers still hide under trees I reached the bunkers of the Atlantic Wall Then I went east through the „what might have been“ waned in the janus-faced smile of Berlin where stones, flags and chimneys point towards Birkenau – Do you remember? I know it so I can't be innocent I know it and it won't be the same And do you think you are unspoilt and guiltless and free you think you are but innocent we'll never be And the surface melts in the summer sun but the streets don't know So you are proud? Are you defined by your heritage? I'm not defined by nationality but by responsibility Every street leads to new borders , confronts me with my heritage Can you see what I see? The front is still confronting me Sometimes I follow the streets like when I was innocent and thought they were built for reaching friends and finding new horizons But they were customized for marching feet and on the same streets the armies set out death blood and misery returned, And refugees. Do you remember? I know it so I can't be innocent I know it and it won't be the same And have we ever been unspoilt and guiltless and free maybe maybe but innocent we'll never be

Eyes are blinded tongues are singed and the hands securely tied what about the weather is it cold when the day becomes the night They all wait for loosing time – Mispassion They all wait for breaking promises – Dispassion And here's what she told me If I had been less innocent she could have loved me more and she tried over and over again but here is the promise: I'm the dying man Goodnight ladies, goodbye heart who wants share my destiny? You will get the part with the death and decline – the poor rest is left for me And I wait for loosing time in passion and venomed wine the passion of the Christ is death – and so is mine „Cold is the day don't loose your way follow your passion again“ But here is the promise: I won't be the one If I had been less innocent you could have loved me more If I'd been more indifferent this point wouldn't be sore And I tried it over and over again Come into my arms dear, try to ease our pain When I die on the cross – will you give me head?
8.
Smile Your naked teeth shall be seen your tongue red and moist inbetween a slithering animal Smile your mouth shall split and let go sperm and saliva shall flow down your neck – like it's weeping, but you smile Don't you Smile „We loose it not as long as we can smile“ (Shakespeare) Smile smile and smile again distorts your face as in pain the animal's threat Now show me you smile And we're looking at each other and sometimes we smile And we're staring at each other and don't know and sometimes we smile And we're breaking under the weight of destiny and sometimes we smile And here we are and we don't know sometimes we guess sometimes we smile

Save me from decadence and pain Spare me pity and disdain Watched by corpses draped in golden chairs down on my knees at the bottom of cold stairs I was alll alone when lightning struck me The gods are silent – but I'm no god Summer's over and we're all alone Something is inside, something moving still Something clouds my mind and breaks my will Burn me in subconscious desires Burn me in self-destructive fires I can imagine more than a mansion above everything dies around me while I'm eaten by love We will count our blessings as we join the dots Symmetry is for idiots and ignorance for gods The gods are silent – but we ain't gods Can you hear this voice? And this is my voice and here is my place And here is my body and this is my place And I'm gonna cough the blood back in your ever smiling face

1 from murder 2 from god 3 away from suicide I hear voices calling from behind the door but I still can't get inside There's a picture in a broken frame in a house where time is standing still I cut a swath through every wilderness and I'm still at the foot of the hill I'm again at the foot of the hill But now let's get higher step upon our pains and have a look around 'Cause love and guilty pleasures are the only things that keep me going on, on and on Blood on my bitten lips and songs against and of despair and god has died a long long time ago, tell me why should I care tell me now why do I care We lost our feeble minds in the shadow of a hill so why do we still torture time when there is time to kill I am 1 word away from murder 2 fucks away from god 3 thoughts away from suicide But let's get higher... 1 from murder 2 from god 3 from suicide So let's get higher I guess I could be called a winner 'cause I made it that far Now let's get even higher, 'cause I know we won't survive this mess and love and guilty pleasures are the only things that keep us going on, and on and on Give me a guilty pleasure Life is a guilty pleasure

Suddenly the light will seem to fade and regrets start crawling from the shade and you crave for some love Suddenly your mind begins to freeze and your hands reach out for memories and you crave for some love Crouched against the wall they will touch you when they come Cool politeness as contempt and they're coming every day and do it over and over again until it's over and you're left to what is left What you are is gonna burn (Do it! Try it now!) What is left is gonna burn and will be dust Suddenly the lights will seem to fade and you crave for some love

about

To what is left - when gods are silent
To what is left - when illusions dried up in the light
To what is left - when a voice is fading
Another dark take on existentialistic matters by Alexander Dust. Lyrically unyielding, musically relentless and beautiful. A challenging (?) journey into the abyss of existence - that is not quite finished...
